Magic and Mud is an in-person, immersive experience designed to reconnect you with the earth and your own inner rhythms. This gathering invites you to discover what is possible when we play with mud—engaging in hands-on activities that foster creativity, connection, and healing.

Prepare for a journey that blends the practical with the restorative. You will experience the deep joy of working with the earth, supported by diverse wellness practices including movement, lifestyle design, music, and the restorative power of nature. there will be dedicated time each day for

  • Instruction & Building: Hands-on learning with natural materials. With a focus on adobe as base layers and finish layers. We will have fun with making the mix and then experiment with what its uses are.

  • Holistic Exploration: Movement and body nourishment.

  • Inner Work: Time for personal reflection.

  • Connection: Community bonding and shared experiences.

Experience the ancient art of building with adobe. We will explore various modes of natural construction using this timeless material—a blend of locally sourced dirt, straw, clay, sand, and water. You will learn to:

  • Mix and test different material ratios.

  • Understand the physics and "feel" of natural building.

  • Create structures that are in harmony with the landscape.

The Location: Crestone, Colorado

Known for its vast array of spiritual and healing traditions, Crestone offers the perfect backdrop for this retreat. Beyond the building site, we will immerse ourselves in the local energy through:

  • Healing Arts: Sessions led by skilled practitioners in movement, meditation, song, sound and more.

  • Nature Immersion: Ample time for walking and hiking in the pristine wilderness.

  • Waters: A restorative day spent soaking in the local natural hot springs.

The site is mostly off-grid, offering a chance to detox from technology and experience the profound peace of the valley. While you camp on-site, you will have full access to an indoor bathroom with a shower, as well as an outdoor solar shower.

This event takes place rain or shine. Please come prepared for all types of weather. August in Crestone can be rainy, sunny, windy and buggy. Pack layers and plenty of sun protection.

Please keep in mind that any toiletries need to be biodegradable and eco friendly. Please avoid any perfumes or fragrances.

Arrival & Departure

  • Arrival: Please plan to arrive by 4:00 PM on August 12th. You will have time to check in and get settled before our first dinner at 6:00 PM and an opening circle to connect with the group.

  • Departure: On the morning of August 16th, we will share breakfast at 9:00 AM, with departure by 11:00 AM.

Sample Daily Flow The days between (August 13, 14, 15) follow a nourishing rhythm designed to balance work, rest, and play:

  • 7:00 – 8:30 AM | Morning Practice: Movement and meditation. Modalities may include Yoga, Dance, Tai Chi, guided meditation, or silent walking.

  • 8:30 – 10:00 AM | Breakfast & Spaciousness: A healthy meal followed by free time to journal, rest, or explore.

  • 10:30 AM – 1:00 PM | Work & Play with Mud: We gather to work with our hands, exploring the basics of natural building and the joy of earth materials.

  • 1:00 – 3:00 PM | Lunch & Break: Time to nourish the body and rest.

  • 3:00 – 5:00 PM | Healing Modalities: We explore diverse healing arts, such as Ayurveda, brain wave entrainment, dance, song, or a restorative soak in the local hot springs.

  • 5:00 – 6:00 PM | Dinner: Community connection over a shared meal.

  • 6:00 - 7:00 PM | Connection: A time to debrief and check in with the group

  • 7:00 - 8:00 PM | Free time: Time for self care

  • 8:00 PM | Self connection: We observe silence and tune into ourselves and the nature around us
